All I've heard of O Banh Mi, are about their baguettes. Little did I know that they have opened a new branch in One Utama ( there is another branch in Damansara Uptown). Since I found it, I couldn't just give up the opportunity to try their much raved about Banh Mi (which apparently means 'bread')
So I step into their shop, and the staff are friendly. There is a sign which says that it is non-halal so please take note as they do serve pork, but they have vegetarian options, so non-muslims who are vegetarians can pop in if you feel like it.
Their menu is divided into 'Light Menu' which is made up of Salads and Rolls, but please take note that currently, the salads are not available at this outlet, and also the 'Main Menu'. The mains available are the Banh Mi sandwiches and Vietnamese noodles! For the Banh Mi sandwiches, you have an option to choose normal baguette or charcoal baguette, and what I find amazing is that they actually bake their baguettes FRESHLY at the outlet it self. I was wondering why the shop had a "yeast"-like smell when I walked it and then I realised it was because they were making it fresh there.
Since everyone says that their Banh Mi sandwiches are awesome, I decided to give their noodles a try instead, as well as their rolls.
Condensed Milk Vietnamese Coffee |
This was the first of my order to arrive, and it arrived piping hot! It had its distinct taste, but I guess that I am not a fan of vietnamese coffee. None the less, it was worth the try.
Left: Pork & Prawn roll, Right: Chicken & Prawn Roll |
Their fresh rolls were yummy! The skin was a bit chewy for my liking, I would have preferred a thinner skin, but the texture and ingredients just blended so well inside my mouth! There is the freshness of the vegetables bursting with flavour, plus the crunchiness of the peanuts inside of it and noodles. Just simply amazing! It comes with a dipping sauce which adds more sizzle to the dish, however this sauce was not spicy for me, but it did compliment the rolls nicely. Definitely different from our own popiah. In fact, I would say this is a way healthier alternative to our popiah! For you vegetarians out there, they have a Tofu Roll for you.
Dry Grilled Pork Noodle |
They have chicken and pork varieties for their noodles and Banh Mi sandwiches, and 1 other option for vegetarians in each category which I forgot to take note off (sorry!). So I decided to order this, as it was the most popular dish on the menu (this and also Mixed Chicken Pho) and I was not disappointed by what was served! This dish comes with a separate sauce, as seen on the right, and this sauce tastes like a very light version of Thai Chilli Sauce. The dish it self has so many sections to it, I would say the bowl was just too small for it. Once again there were alot of fresh vegetables in it, sliced cucumber, shredded carrots, lettuce, bean sprouts and a bit of mint leaves covering the noodles and is topped with grilled pork meat, chopped peanuts and a fried roll. You have to pour the sauce in and mix it all up before eating and it ended up kinda messy as yours truly is not exactly an expert with chop sticks :p. It tasted AMAZING! Just like the rolls, the different textures of the vegetables, the peanuts, the noodles, the freshness from the mint leaves, the crispiness of the fried rolls and the sweetness of the sauce just makes it a delicious healthy meal!
They will definitely see me there again for a second visit, and maybe then I will give their much raved about Banh Mi sandwiches a try. I rate this place 4/5 for food and 3/5 for ambiance.
